46 Silver Leaf Avenue, circa 1825 in Chatham, Massachusetts was built and eventually sold in 1890 to Captain Darius Hammond who ran a packet between Chatham, New Bedford and Long Island for over 30 years. Hammond is known as the person who brought the silver leaf maple tree to Chatham – hence the name, Silver Leaf Avenue.
The home is a stately Federal style property with a charming spindle picket fence and a unique louvered fan design above the entry door. The oldest section of this home was moved and relocated from the shore during a bad storm – this is why the property is not entirely symmetrical.
In 2020, the current homeowner hired the craftsmen at Seaport Shutter to custom make a mahogany screen and storm door with a gold leaf house number carving for the front entrance as well as Architecturally Correct shutters to replicate the original wood shutters.
