The Brewster Garage, one of the original gas stations on Cape Cod, was built around 1910. It became a hotspot for repairing the Hupmobile, a stylish car that was built from 1901-1939. A woman by the name of Agathe Gervais would greet passersby stopping for gas at the old garage. She was a lively woman, full of stories and was very short – so short she would carry around a wooden step stool to help hoist her up high enough to clean motorists windshields. She worked at the Brewster Garage well into her 80’s.
Over the years, the garage fell into disrepair and had environmental issues on the property. Peter and Marsha Malone purchased the building in 1992 and brought it back to life, honoring the original architecture— keeping the same shingled tourret and stucco walls. This restoration was recognized and an award was given to the Malone’s for the Best Renovated Building in 1997 by the Cape Cod Realtors Association.
The building has been home to Seaport Shutter Company and Nautique for the last 30 years. Both businesses continue to expand and the building has become a landmark on the corner of 6A and Route 137.
